RVP to Manchester United? Do me a favour
Since Robin Van Persie announced yesterday that he won’t be renewing his contract at Arsenal the tabloids and broadsheets have been going absolutely chicken oriental about where the deadly Dutchman will go next.
Many are suggesting that there will be a straight battle for his signature between the Manchester clubs. Ooh, I wonder who will win that one? A club who usually only buys young players and has half a billion pounds worth of debt, or the richest, most shopaholic club in the world?
Even though Manchester City – with Tevez, Balotelli, Aguero, Dzeko and Adebayor currently on their books – don’t really need him, they certainly want him. Roberto Mancini has openly courted RVP and will be happy to pay over the odds for a man with only a year left on his Arsenal contract.
Although Sir Alex probably likes the player too, I would eat my computer if he actually gets him. City will just keep upping their bid until United decide to pay off a bit more of their ocean of debt instead. The only way that RVP would come to Old Trafford is if he expressed a specific desire to do so. And having stated yesterday that ’I love this club (Arsenal). Whatever happens that will never change,’ it may seem a bit hypocritical if he then moves to Arsenal’s biggest rivals of recent years.
That said, Gooners must also be pretty hacked off with Manchester City too, after the last few seasons of trade between the clubs. From their perspective, a move abroad would probably be the most respectful outcome for Van Persie.
But we think that RVP to United is a total non-starter – a pure paper seller.
So where do you think RVP will end up?
