Liverpool boss checks up on his new star?
The jury may still be out on Brendan Rodgers signings but he is seemingly sticking with his guns on investing in young players with potential. Rodgers hasn’t batted an eyelid as players like Wesley Sneijder have become available and instead continues to seek out the cream of young talent around the globe.
It has been reported by several media outlets that the Liverpool boss made a personal scouting trip to Holland yesterday to watch Feyenoord central defender Stefan De Vrij in action as his team beat none other than PSV. At 21 De Vrij is held in such high regard that he is already the captain of his club. With Martin Skrtel having a bit of a stinker at times this season Liverpool need to add numbers and Rodgers is apparently impressed by the youngster.
He has already played for Feyenoord 93 times and got his full international debut for Holland last year. He has 3 caps for the Dutch national side and is tipped to become a mainstay in the side. He was even named in the provisional squad for EURO 2012 but didn’t make the final cut. He’s 6ft2in and probably still growing so he looks like he will have the build for the hurly burly of The Premier League.
Liverpool look as if they will be busy in the transfer market come summer after another transitional season. De Vrij could be one of the first summer recruits.
