Knee Jerk Reaction – Manchester United are rubbish again, Liverpool hate Newcastle
Manchester United are pants
Before the season started they weren’t good enough as they were too tight to buy Sneijder. Then Cleverley and Anderson combined to beat Arsenal 8-2 and we were seeing the next Busby Babes multiplied by The Fergie Fledglings to the power of 5. Then they were rubbish again after going out of the Champions League to a team from a place that everyone thought was a herb. Then they did well against the (also rubbish) big four and they were ok again.
But after last night Man United are definitely rubbish. Pathetic in fact. Taken to pieces by the lesser known Athletic in Spain on United’s own patch. Rarely in my life have I seen an away team dominate at Old Trafford like that. Chelsea did it the first season they won the Premier League and Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ possibly pulled United’s pants down at OT, but this? This is scraping the barrel. It’s definitely the end of an era and Fergie should be in his slippers down the local bookies, not running a crumbling empire.
Why is he resting his best players when United have so little left to play for and only have to face West Brom at home on Sunday? It’s disrespectful to the competition and the people who pay to see United play. If they had fielded Rio, Carrick, Nani and Scholes they could have won comfortably and then rested the big boys next week with the tie already in the bank.
Iker Muniain is the next Messi
You’ve guessed it. For the 728th time we have found the next Messi. Based on one superb game for Athletic Bilbao the 19 year old is the best thing since penicillin. No, a better thing than penicillin. Surely Fergie didn’t actually let him leave Old Trafford last night without the Spaniardettes’s signature on a freshly typed 20 year contract? Or at least lock him in a room until the morning with heavy set, twitching, unnofficial officials from Old Trafford regularly showing him pictures of his family and doing the finger across throat gesture until he puts pen to paper. Surely even a man who should be in his slippers down the bookies can see how good this boy is? If, for some reason, he can’t then surely now is the time for one of those moments when all the players tell the boss to sign him, a la Ronaldo. Because Muniain truly pulled all their shorts down and slapped their bottoms redder than the shirts last night. Laughing while doing it.
Ashley Young is Rubbish
The most annoying thing about him is that every now and again he scores a couple of flukey belters which only serve to sweep the rest of his paltry game under the carpet. If he is good enough for Man United, then so am I. And you. And yes you too madame.
Phil Jones – aye aye aye
Would have taken the brunt of my ire if it weren’t for Ashley (not even particularly) Young. Who would have thought in January that we would be talking about De Gea as Fergie’s best close season signing? Phil Jones has been regularly likened some of the best players ever, from Duncan Edwards to Bryan Robson. How about a 46 year old version of John Terry? You can’t become the best player in the world purely through desire. And desire is all I can see in the boy at the moment. Where is the deftness of touch or the speed of thought? Has everyone forgotten those incidental qualities? Obviously he has been picked by Fergie and Capello so there must be great potential in the lad. But I would take Smalling every day of the week. Even a Smalling with only half the blood left in his head. Chris Smalling has speed of thought and foot. But at the moment, Jones is just a charging rag doll who always looks out of breath – I have never seen someone look so tired during a game.
Liverpool and Newcastle Fans hate eachother
soccersweep wrote one seemingly harmless and speculative piece about how the underused Hatem Ben Arfa could be a good fit for Liverpool. To begin with, the hatred was direct towards the writer in the comments section. But then someone from Newcastle said something about Liverpool’s mum and that was it. A whole night spent putting expletive-fuelled comments in the trash. I haven’t slept I tell thee.
I love the passion though. You’re true football fans with proper football clubs and noone can take that away.
