Bale makes worrying noises
The Premier League has been graced with 3 stand out performers this season. Usually one is head and shoulders above the rest but, this year, Gareth Bale, Robin van Persie and Luis Suarez have all had sensational periods for their clubs. In the first half of the season many would have RvP marked down as the clear favourite for Player of The Year. Suarez continued to shine and has now overtaken the Dutchman in the scoring stakes. But, in the last few months Tottenham maestro Gareth Bale has been pretty much peerless.
The 23 year old has been winning game after game for his club and now looks like a devastating finished article. But, worryingly for Tottenham fans, he keeps getting quoted talking about other clubs.
Sky reports that Bale has again been talking up some European heavyweights, this time on a French TV show Telefoot
“Yes, PSG is a great team,”
“They brought great players last summer, even in January. This is a club to follow in the future, a bit like Manchester City. They are still not at the level of great clubs. Not like Bayern, Real or Barcelona.”
Former Tottenham director Damien Comolli was quoted on the same show as saying
“there is a 90 per cent chance that he will stay at Spurs. I know the president of Spurs and how he works. Only three or four clubs can afford (Bale) right now.”
So, by talking about other clubs, is Bale putting himself on the market? Perhaps this is a bit harsh. Bale was asked about PSG. But he has been linked with a move to Spain in the past and has already expressed an interest in playing abroad. Name checking the two Spanish clubs again will do nothing to assuage the fears of Tottenham fans about the future of their star player.
We think that Tottenham are on an upward trajectory and that Bale can achieve his dreams in London. But, a player of his quality is always going to generate interest from the world’s biggest clubs. Hopefully, for the Tottenham faithful, the club are ambitious enough to keep their prized possession.
